East Renfrewshire Council receives funding from the Scottish Government to provide free period products in schools and to the wider community. Access to free products is currently available to communities at a variety of premises including Council buildings, community centres and halls, libraries, sports and leisure centres, and some health centres.
As part the Council’s new duties relating to the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Act 2021 which is due to be implemented later this year, it is important that we ask local people and workers, regardless of their age, sex or gender, their views on making period products available free of charge in communities.
The Scottish Government places dignity at the heart of this new law and wants anyone who needs free period products to be able to get them without any issues, questions or embarrassment. The Act says that all responsible bodies, in this case East Renfrewshire Council, must make products reasonably easy to obtain, respect dignity and offer a reasonable choice of types of period products. We need to know what period products people living, working and visiting East Renfrewshire want, where they want them and how they want to access them. By taking part in this survey you will help us to ensure that we are providing the best choice of products in the best possible way.
