Ayr Road (South) Active Travel Improvements

Closes 24 Dec 2021

East Renfrewshire Council is developing plans to improve the active travel infrastructure and public realm on the southern section of the A77 Ayr Road in Newton Mearns. The following survey contains details of our proposals and opportunities for you to provide feedback.

The project aims to provide infrastructure that is safe and comfortable for people of all ages and abilities. This will enable more people to use walking, cycling, and wheeling (wheelchairs, mobility scooters, and other mobility aids) for transport and recreation. We are also exploring opportunities to introduce attractive new landscaping and green infrastructure along the route.

Improving active travel infrastructure aligns with East Renfrewshire Council's aspiration for a network of Strategic Cycle Corridors, as outlined in the Local Development Plan 2 (p71). This project forms part of the proposed Strategic Cycle Corridor 2, between Newton Mearns and Giffnock.

The new facilities will connect to the existing shared-use path along the southern rural section of the A77, and to potential future provision in the north (following the outcome of the temporary Spaces for People measures).
