Carlibar Park Improvements

Closes 14 Jun 2021

Opened 31 May 2021

Overview

East Renfrewshire Council is consulting about plans to replace derelict land in Barrhead with a riverside park.  The purpose of this consultation is to present our emerging plans before applying for planning permissions.  At the planning application stage there will be an opportunity to submit formal representations.

The consultation focuses on derelict land at Walton Street in Barrhead town centre.  It also looks at sections of the river downstream near Carlibar Primary School and the red ash pitch near the bowling green. The proposals will transform the derelict land by widening the river channel into a sinous open feature surrounded by new parks and gardens.  There will be new woodland planting, meadow sowing and footpaths. The weir at Carlibar Primary School will be adjusted to allow salmon to pass upstream.  The proposals include seating and outdoor education space and a community growing area.

There will be a live Question & Answer session via Microsoft Teams on 7 June from 5pm to 7pm.  Please email: mark.brand@eastrenfrewshire.gov.uk for a meeting invitation.
