Main feedback gathered from those residents who shared their concerns –

Extra attention from the police / wardens in the following areas -

  • Main Street, Barrhead – Public felt this area requires extra attention during the day as a result of persons with a drug user appearance hanging around in groups at the front of the shops.
  • Carliebar Park, Barrhead – Youths hanging about. Very dark in the evening. Would benefit from increased lighting.
  • Dunterlie, Barrhead – Extra patrols within the area.
  • Asda - Youths congregating at night in the car park and also hanging about outside the front entrance in large groups.
  • Foundry – Youths hanging about. Deterring members of the public from using the facilities.
  • Newton Avenue – Youths hitting windows with stones

Council issues highlighted however informed to report through the normal channels -

  • Cars parked on public footpath outside Cross Arthurlie Primary School cause an issue for vehicles passing and pedestrians.
  • Path outside the care home opposite bank of Scotland requires gritting.
  • Pathway behind Centenary Way leading to the train station  - Dark due to lack of lighting and shrubbery could also be cut back
  • Rear of Iceland shop – Very dark would benefit from additional lighting / pot holes at rear.
  • Dog Fouling – Murray Place / Craighead

Outcomes:

  • Police problem solving teams have been informed of the issues and areas requiring extra attention.
  • Joint action plan involving Police / Wardens and the Council has been created to tackle youth disorder around Asda and The Foundry, Main Street, Barrhead
  • Feedback has been shared with the council parks department regarding the lighting issues at Carliebar Park and the pathways that require shrubbery to be cut back.  They will attend in the area to identify those issues raised by the public.
