East Renfrewshire Council’s Education Committee met on 18 December 2025 to consider the outcomes from the consultation on the proposal to close Glen Family Centre and the future Early Learning and Childcare provision for children aged 0–3 years in the east of the authority for school session 2026/27 and beyond.
At this meeting the committee considered the consultation report which resulted in committee approving the proposal.

In accordance with section 15(2) and (2A) of The Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010, the local authority is required to notify Scottish Ministers of the approval to progress to close an educational establishment, within 6 days of making the decision, and place a notice on its website of this fact and of the opportunity to make representations to the Scottish Ministers. The Council advised Scottish Ministers of the outcome of the proposal on 18 December 2025.

The deadline for making a representation is defined as three weeks from the decision date, including that day, therefore if a decision is taken on Tuesday, 1 March, the three-week period ends at midnight on Monday, 21 March.
The deadline for making a representation on this decision is therefore 7 January 2026.
On Thursday 12 June 2025, the Education Committee approved the issue of a consultative document on the proposal to close Glen Family Centre and to extend the future early learning and childcare provision for children aged 0 – 3 years residing in the east of the authority, for school session 2026/27 and beyond.
The Council has completed the consultation on its proposal with reference to the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010, as amended, and now publishes the consultation results report which will be considered by the Council’s Education Committee on 18 December 2025.
Should the proposal be approved by the Education Committee on 18 December 2025, further details of how any representations to Scottish Ministers can be made with regards to the consultation, will be provided on this page following such a decision.

The consultation has now concluded having been open for the statutory timescales.
The consultation results report will be published on the council’s website no later than 27 November 2025 and the Director of Education will present the report and recommendation to the Council's Education Committee on 18 December 2025. The decision taken by the Education Committee at the meeting on 18 December will be shared on the Council's website after the meeting. Should the Education Committee decide to progress with the proposal to close Glen Family Centre, further details will also be provided on the Council's website on 18 December 2025 detailing how members of the public can make any representations to Scottish Ministers.
East Renfrewshire Council is consulting on its proposal to rationalise the education estate by closing Glen Family Centre and introducing 0 to 3 year old services, (currently provided at Glen Family Centre), to Glenwood Family Centre before the commencement of the 2026-27 academic year.
A copy of the proposed consultation, which includes the reasoning for the proposed closure of Glen Family Centre and how it is proposed that the services currently provided at the centre will be re-distributed in the east of the council area from the commencement of school year 2026-27, has been published on the Council’s website and is available here:
